Opportunities in Web design, I.T., and Consultancy with Global Webtrader About
Working with us at GWT About
working with us We think we are a refreshing change from the impersonal corporation business model, and we want to stay that way no matter how big we get... a bit more "Ben and Jerry" (ice cream) than EDS. We don't want to lose the feeling of shared community our people enjoy at work. Who are we looking for? The standard "young" doesn't apply here (nor do most other "isms" - apart from professionalism). If you have the right talents we don't care if you are 16 or 60. What we want are people with good ideas and visualisation, we can teach you the computer skills to allow you to convert these onto a screen. Obviously sometimes we are going to want more than that but the main qualities we look for are confidence and the desire to do a great job. We are happy to talk to people who want to work from home, providing you can meet the schedules and targets then we don't see any problem with day to day telecommuting. Some team meetings in the office are unavoidable and there may be other unavoidable travel commitments depending on where your client is based... Portsmouth, Maimi, Niarobi, Athens, Singapore, or Huddersfield ... Global WebTrader works there! We will encourage you to gain professional qualifications and to attend training courses to supplement and extend your skills. We want to extend and enhance you, we will present you with opportunities to take your career in unexpected but fruitful directions. We would rather you were happy and will bend over backward to make sure that a day with Global WebTrader is a pleasure not a pain. We recognise that our people are our primary resource and treat them accordingly. Rules and regulations, well beyond dressing appropriately to meet clients and showing due consideration to your colleagues thats really about it. We will give you deadlines and targets, meet those and we will be happy. You need to be able to understand, read, write, and speak English, thats not bias its just that the rest of us don't "do" many other languages expertly. Otherwise linguists of all sorts are welcome! One other thing our CEO insists upon is that we give all employees who have been with us 3 years or more a 40th birthday bonus of 3 months paid leave. Its not charity, but it is an opportunity to review your life and decide what you want to do with the rest of your life without the pressures of work impinging on you. Could be that thats what he did and it changed his life, or it could just be that we are nice folk... Web
Designers Projects are built around flexible teams, selecting the people with the right skills for each stage of the web building process. What that means is that on one project you may be the team leader, on the next you might be the database expert drafted in. Challenge is the name of the game, we want you to grow and we want to get the best out of you. Don't expect loads of managers either, we expect that everyone will manage themselves and at some point manage and direct the efforts of colleagues through leading a project. Essential skills we look for are: the ability to learn computer skills or existence of proven skills, good visualisation of original ideas, good communication skills, numeracy, prepared to go egoless, keen. We use Dreamweaver, Frontpage, for site construction and various other software packages for graphics and animation development. Knowledge and experience of PHP, MySQL, UNIX, WebObjects,Coldfusion, WebSphere, ASP, and Access would be a definite advantage. Our web designers should also be capable of original thought! By that we mean that some part of you has to be a mix of Graphic designer and Advertising Executive. You will be expected to come up with a look that compliments the clients requirements, something that you can sell to the client, something that is going to enhance thier business. Thats quite a tall order but we want our designers involved throughout a project. If you don't have those skills currently then we would expect you to develop them. Whilst we like artists and can appreciate great art in its place what we are looking for is art in the service of business not vice versa - what we do is about the client not about us or our egos!! What we don't expect are primadonnas, we are a team environment and we use the egoless development environment that has proved so successful in many major software companies. We will provide a supportive, friendly environment where you can learn new skills and develop through the challenges of the business. Analysts,
software designers, and programmers Our Business Analysts are responsible for visiting clients, assessing their needs - including the implicit needs - arriving at a reasoned and well thought through Outline recommendation, and moving that through to an System Specification, and then managing the project through to completion. That will include working with systems analysts, programmers, and customer based testers and management. Our Systems Analysts will often be Business Analysts as well, but they will be expected to provide critique and analysis for others projects to ensure there is a constant cross fertilisation of ideas and consistent Quality and Technical Assurance across all projects. One month you can be producing System specifications for a major finance house, the next you can be providing the Business analysis for a small company who are just stating out with Office Automation There is significant overlap between our Systems Analysts and Business Analysts as well, but they will be expected to provide critique and analysis for others projects to ensure there is a constant cross fertilisation of ideas and consistent Quality and Technical Assurance across all projects. That means our Anlaysts of whatever type are savvy with both IT and Business matters. IT staff aren't imprisoned in a cell of their skillsets making, we want you to be involved in ensuring that we are always looking 2 or 3 years down the road at where our development environment should be heading. We also want to have strength in depth, so we encourage and support an environment where staff learn from colleagues, as a wise man said "if you aren't learning you are probably dead". Skills we look for are; good HTML 3.0 and higher,XML, DHTML, PHP3, ASP, Java, Javascript, J++, ActiveX, C++, Perl, Visual basic, Oracle SQL, MySQL, FoxPro, Objectstar, Delphi, Oracle, online database knowledge of all sorts... etc. We are also look for mainframe languages for our outsourcing unit, COBOL, RPG, SCL, PL2, UNIX, Model 204, etc. primarily we anticipate that you would be involved in support and maintenance of legacy systems rather than development but that is by no means certain at the moment. Sales
staff Essential skills we look for: Computer and Internet literacy, excellent interpersonal skills, good communications skills, patience, keenness to do the job, and no preconceptions about our customers.
Where
to write We will make our best efforts to get back to you but please don't give up on us if you hear nothing for a few months. If we don't have a post to talk to you about at the moment we will keep you on file. Whatever the result we wish you well in your career. |
